Sometimes even after a great night's sleep it can be challenging to feel alive and vibrant when you see those tired, drooping eyes looking back at you from the mirror. The loose skin over the eyes and the fat pads under your eyes make you look older and more
tired than you feel inside. If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. Each year thousands of women and men choose eyelid surgery to help restore a more energetic and youthful appearance. Eyelid surgery can correct sagging eyelids, remove fatty pouches beneath the eyes and remove excess skin from the upper eyelids. Cosmetic eye surgery, or blepharoplasty, can be done alone or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift, a browlift or laser skin resurfacing.

YOUR CONSULTATION

During your initial consultation, Dr. Maloney will discuss your particular condition, your expectations, and the probable outcome of treatment. You will be computer imaged, shown several before and after treatment photographs, and receive an explanation of your treatment. We must be informed of your medical history, current medications, previous eye surgeries and any dryness of the eye.

THE PROCEDURE

Dr. Maloney is a pioneer in the restoration of a youthful look to the eyelid area. While some patients may benefit from traditional techniques of removing excess skin and tissue around the eyes, others may have a hollow or sunken look which can only be reversed by adding fullness back to the eye area. Dr. Maloney may try to use the tissue around the eye, but may recommend a
fat transfer in an attempt to restore that youthful fullness. Eyelid surgery is often combined with a browlift to help open the eyes. The blepharoplasty will remove excess tissue, but it will not improve the quality of the eyelid skin. Laser skin resurfacing may be recommended to smooth eyelid wrinkles.

WHAT ABOUT MY RECOVERY?

After the surgery, the area around your eyes may be bruised and swollen for about two weeks. Patients should keep their head elevated and place cold compresses on their eyes for the first 48 hours. Antibiotic eye drops or ointment may be prescribed. Patients may not wear their contact lenses for about two weeks, until the eyes feel normal. Make-up may be worn after about seven days. The resulting scars, which follow the natural contour of the eyelids, tend to fade quickly. Most patients resume daily activities in less than one week. After cosmetic surgery our patients have a softer more youthful look to their eyes.
