Rhinoplasty:

Have you ever imagined a smaller, more refined nose? You are not alone. Each year, thousands of men and women elect to change their appearance through rhinoplasty, or surgery of the nose, making it the most common cosmetic procedure performed today.

Patients choose rhinoplasty for a variety of cosmetic or reconstructive purposes:

Before you have surgery, Dr. Maloney will evaluate your nose and face, including the bone structure of your nose, cartilage and your skin type. He will determine the best method of treatment in order to help you achieve facial harmony and fulfill your desired
look. Dr. Maloney will communicate these changes to you using computer images and other computer imaging patient photos. While not a guarantee of results, this allows the patient to understand what the surgery hopes to correct. Discuss with Dr. Maloney
any concerns you may have about the surgery and if you have had any prior nose surgeries. Dr. Maloney will help you prepare for your surgery by giving you instructions on diet and any medications you should take or avoid prior to the procedure.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE PERFORMED?

carefully closed with dissolvable stitches, eliminating the need for nasal packing. In the past, it was the packing which was responsible for most of the discomfort and bruising after nose surgery.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

When performed by a qualified surgeon, the risks associated with rhinoplasty are minimal. Most post-surgery irregularities resolve themselves with time. Occasionally, a second surgery is required, but this is rare.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER SURGERY?

Immediately after surgery, a small splint is placed over the nose to help maintain its new shape and position. Any discomfort you may feel can be easily controlled with medication. Patients generally experience minimal swelling and bruising. Dr. Maloney recommends applying cold compresses for the first 48 hours to reduce swelling and encourage a faster recovery. The splint is removed after one week. The improved shape of your new nose will be noticeable immediately; however, a small amount
of swelling may be present for a year.
